Covid-19

The Covid-19 virus will cause significant changes in the way we all do things for the foreseeable future.  This section contains useful links to official sources of information.  It also contains local information and phone numbers.  If you are self-isolating or cannot leave your house, keep essential phone numbers to hand so that you can contact members of the community - the local shops, SPAR and The Gatehouse Store - who can organise deliveries to your home.  Also the Surgery, Chemist, and other community support which IS available.  Also do keep in touch with your friends and family, and with your neighbours.

Transport to vaccination appointment

If you need transport to your COVID vaccination appointment you are advised to arrange it with someone in your own household or bubble if possible.

If that is not possible Galloway Community Transport (GCT) will do their best to arrange transport. GCT can be contacted on 07841 512449 or by email on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

GCT needs at least 48 hours notice to be able to arrange transport

Community Helpline

The helpline will be reactivated on 6 January 2020.

THE CONTACT NUMBER REMAINS: 01557 520377 (10:00am– 6:00pm)

  • The service offered will consist of advice and information during the current lockdown;
  • Unlike the previous arrangements, we will not be able to collect and deliver shopping unless it has been paid for in advance. No payment on the doorstep will be possible;
  • Collection and delivery of prescriptions can be carried out.

The changes to the shopping arrangements are the result of Spar being unable to accept payment for orders over the telephone. Spar will, as usual, be able to accept card payments from customers in the shop and will deliver in exceptional circumstances,

Volunteers will be able to provide details of retailers and other volunteer groups able to take orders and payment, either by telephone or through online shopping.

Gatehouse Community Council

Dumfries and Galloway Council : SupportDG

It has been a different festive period for all of us and the start of 2021 has found us back in lockdown again despite our collective and individual best efforts over the course of 2020.

As you will have seen from the media, there is an increase in cases in Dumfries and Galloway which is being exacerbated by the new more transmissible strain of COVID-19.

As Community Councils, Resilience Teams and Local Volunteers find their response increasing yet again we are ready to assist and support you as much as we can.

Phase 3 Update from The Scottish Government

Phase 3 began (10 July) with daily new confirmed cases averaging in single digits, daily confirmed deaths averaging below one (and closer to zero) and with an estimated 700 infectious people in Scotland. This provided a solid platform for further, careful easing of restrictions, consistent with our approach to mitigating the overall harm from the crisis – to our health, economy and society more broadly.

Key Community Contacts

Gatehouse is a resilient community but these are worrying times for everyone.  Try to stay calm and be supportive to others in the community.  Make sure you get your neighbour’s telephone number and check regularly how they are doing.   If you can safely help them with shopping, prescriptions etc. please do so, but do not put yourself at risk of exposure to the virus.  Wash your hands regularly keep at least 2 metres distance and avoid touching shared surfaces.  Support our local businesses if you can.  Lets all be positive, stay healthy and pull together during this challenging time.  23 March 2020
