Little Boreland, Gatehouse of Fleet

This enchanting former farmhouse sits in tranquil gardens and woodland. Nestled on a hillside across an ancient field, Little Boreland has caught the eye of many a passing artist. It is a haven for wildlife and the night skies can be spectacular. There are hill walks within sight of the sea with its sandy beaches and rocky coves. The Fleet Valley is a National Scenic Area in South West Scotland.

Little Boreland is full of character, whitewashed with charming blue windows, a quaint dairy and a burn running into a small pond. It is mid to late 18th century grade ‘B’ listed, within the conservation area of the small town of Gatehouse of Fleet, a short walk away. Here can be found individual shops and restaurants, the Country Style kilt making centre and the Mill on the Fleet Visitor Centre. The area offers great walking opportunities with wonderful countryside, lochs and the Galloway Forest Park with cycle rides and a rich variety of wildlife.

Other attractions include the Cally Gardens with specialist plants and the Cream o’ Galloway for adventure playgrounds and its celebrated ice cream. Throughout the area are fishing, golf and watersports, historic sites, castles and gardens. Within reach are many attractive towns: Kirkcudbright, the artists’ town offering boat trips and art and craft shops; Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town with many specialist shops and nearby Threave Castle and Gardens; Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town, and Creetown featuring the Gem Rock Museum.
