Consultation : Dumfries and Galloway Spaces for People

Dumfries and Galloway Council needs your help to identify locations that may need temporary measures to ensure people can get about safely when walking, cycling and wheeling (in a wheelchair or mobility scooter) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A special website has been set up to allow people to suggest improvements or highlight problems.  You can check what has already been added or add new suggestions for your local area. The interactive map will be open until the 21st August 2020.

It won’t be possible to fulfil every request but the Council is asking for your input to identify areas where physical distancing is most difficult. They will then be able to direct their limited resources to where they are most needed.

Dyking competition to be held at Drummuckloch Gatehouse

A dyking competition is to be held at Drummuckloch to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding in Gatehouse of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain.  Thirty years earlier Colonel Rainsford-Hannay of Cardoness, concerned at the decline in the number of dykers had established the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright Drystane Dyking Committee.  It was this organisation which grew into the national body in 1965.
