Platinum Trees

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the Woodland Trust offered saplings to every town which wanted to plant some. Gatehouse opted for a selection of rowans, hazel and crab apples which have now been planted around the town. The School planted one of each, the three Churches have had one each along with the Community Centre, the Mill on the Fleet, the children's Fleetside play park and the Town Hall garden.

Electricity work starting in Gatehouse and the Fleet valley

UPDATE:The stretch of the road from the Anwoth turning up to Nether Rusko will be closed from 7am to 7pm daily between 10th and 23rd August.  The stretch from Nether Rusko to Gatehouse Station will then be closed from 7th - 20th September.  Access will be maintained for residents.

During 2020, SP Energy Networks will be investing in the electricity network and infrastructure in the Gatehouse area.
The Fleet Valley has been designated an area of natural beauty and a visual amenity site. As such SP Energy Networks has committed to removing some of its overhead line infrastructure as part of our essential reinforcement works to further enhance the natural beauty of the area. This work is critical to ensure continued delivery of a reliable, consistent and safe electricity supply -which we know you rely on now more than ever.

Water On Tap

Fill up your water bottle. Save the planet, reuse your water bottle. The Community Council would like your opinion on the Clock Tower Water Fountain. Should it be reinstated?

The fountain is an interesting feature of the town and the clock tower but will require some work to bring it back into working order. If you would like to see this happen, let one of your community councillors know, or come along to one of the monthly meetings of the Community Council on the second Tuesday of every month - 7pm in the Community Centre.

Gatehouse of Fleet Men’s Shed

Since the first Men’s Shed was set up in 1996, the concept and interest in them has grown remarkably, particularly in the last few years. Since the opening of the initial shed in Barrhead in East Renfrewshire, there are now 78 in operation and 47 in development. Men’s Sheds are similar to garden sheds – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practise skills and enjoy making and mending.

Work gets underway on Rutherford monument

The spell of find weather has created the perfect conditions to get the scaffolding up to the Rutherford monument.  The scaffolding arrived on 4th June and was immediatley taken up to the monument.   Work should be completed by the end of the week allowing Luce Bay construction to start work on taking down and rebuilding the top sections of the monument.

Big hearted gardeners brave the rain

Heavy rain did not worry Gatehouse's Nurture in Nature group, who came well prepared to plant out begonias at the Town Hall garden.  A group of five small children and their parents, later joined by others eagerly set to work and planted out two big boxes of begonias, which had been kindly donated by Dumfries and Galloway council.
