Electricity work starting in Gatehouse and the Fleet valley

UPDATE: The stretch of the road from the Anwoth turning up to Nether Rusko will be closed from 7am to 7pm daily between 10th and 23rd August.  The stretch from Nether Rusko to Gatehouse Station will then be closed from 7th - 20th September.  Access will be maintained for residents.

During 2020, SP Energy Networks will be investing in the electricity network and infrastructure in the Gatehouse area.
The Fleet Valley has been designated an area of natural beauty and a visual amenity site. As such SP Energy Networks has committed to removing some of its overhead line infrastructure as part of our essential reinforcement works to further enhance the natural beauty of the area. This work is critical to ensure continued delivery of a reliable, consistent and safe electricity supply -which we know you rely on now more than ever.

● Initially, we plan to replace a number of our network assets in the Fleet Valley area. The first stage of work being undertaken includes replacing some of the heavy construction overhead lines/poles with a new underground cable. The planned start date for this work is Monday 22nd June 2020 in the Fleetsidearea of Gatehouse and, from 6thJuly, onto the B796 Gatehouse to Creetown road.

● This work will not require any access to or work on individual properties.

This work will continue during the existing COVID-19 lockdown and will be performed in line with the safety guidelines outlined by the Government.

Temporary Traffic Management - comprising temporary obstructions (long delays) of up to 15 minutes in any one hour period. Please expect long delays when using this road.

Temporary Speed limit - no person shall drive or cause to be driven any vehicle at a speed in excess of 40mph.

Please note: Further notifications will be issued on proposed full road closures limited to working hours within this period

What to expect

Traffic in your area

You may experience an increased presence of our vehicles in your local area.

There will also be the need to set up some temporary traffic control measures; the location of these measures on the B796 will move throughout the duration of the works. This has been agreed with the local  authority roads department.

We appreciate this work is likely to cause some inconvenience, but assure you we will make every effort to programme the work carefully to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Your patience and cooperation while we undertake these works is very much appreciated.
