The new Gatehouse playpark is up and running after an incredible £100,000 community fundraising campaign and a major effort by many local residents. The new park at Riverbank Wynd features new all-inclusive play equipment and is already being well used and enjoyed by local children.
Campaign Co-ordinator, Tarena Dickie, is to be congratulated for her enthusiasm and endless determination to make this project happen. Tarena said: “The park equipment came to £86,000. Another 10 per cent will go to the council to maintain and inspect the equipment over the 25 year lease period. Dumfries & Galloway Housing Partnership own the land and leased the land to the community for a peppercorn rent. It has been a joint effort between ourselves through the Gatehouse Development Initiative, the Council and DGHP. The remaining money was spent on a sensory area and a recycled plastic picnic bench. But the project would never have been achieved without all our donors and supporters.”
After the contractors created the space and put in the equipment there was a great effort by a team of community helpers of all ages to put the finishing touches to the playpark. Well done and hearty thanks to all involved. It is a dream come true. Congratulations to all on a remarkable achievement.
