Following the disappointing postponement of the inaugural edition of Raiders Gravel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event organisers are excited that Raiders Gravel is finally on the horizon, set to take place in Gatehouse of Fleet from August 25th to 28th 2022.
Hundreds of amateur and elite riders from across the globe are set to descend on Gatehouse of Fleet in late August to experience the stunning gravel riding opportunities the South of Scotland has to offer.
What’s Raiders Gravel all about?
Raiders Gravel is a truly Scottish gravel adventure ride, held over four days in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park. Over three stunning routes riders will explore the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere, witnessing its stunning beauty and wildlife. With its rides and accompanying festival, Raiders Gravel has the optimal mix of adventure, exertion, culture and relaxation making for an unforgettable cycling event in one of Scotland’s most beautiful areas.
What’s the objective behind Raiders Gravel?
Raiders Gravel is aiming to become the leading gravel event in Europe and help establish Gatehouse of Fleet and the wider region as a go-to cycling destination for visitors from across the globe. With participants for the inaugural event travelling in from across the UK and Europe and as far away as the USA, Raiders Gravel aims to support further international tourism to the area in the coming years and support post-Covid recovery.
Across the four event days riders will face over 300km of gravel riding, with over 2500m of climbing. Riding in teams of two or solo, it’s very much choose your own adventure. But Raiders Gravel is so much more than just a cycling event. There’s plenty to make Raiders a weekend to remember. Based in Garries Park the ‘Fan Zone’ will host a number of activations and exhibits from global partners and local businesses alike. Each evening the main stage in the ‘Fan Zone’ will host events including presentations and talks, and local musicians, poets and dancers will add a taste of real Scottish culture. All evening events are free to attend for both participants and non-participants. Organisers invite local residents to enjoy everything on offer in Garries Park throughout the weekend.

Volunteering: Help support the smooth running of the regions newest international event. Organisers are recruiting volunteer marshals to support with directional guidance of riders throughout the stages in the Galloway Forest Park. Organisers are donating £50 per marshall per day to the event’s official charity (Wheels of Fleet). Spectators: Show your support for the many passionate cyclists riding the event and come down to Garries Park to cheer them on as they set off on their epic rides each morning or celebrate with them as they arrive back home each evening. Each stage begins with a mass-start out of Garries Park on Friday (14:00), Saturday (9:00) and Sunday (9:00).
