To mark 7 years on the go with all things bikes, Wheels of Fleet hosted a happy event of food, film, picture gallery, presentations, bike raffle and music. Recognising the support this project has received from so many in the community, the project wanted to thank those who help Wheels of Fleet to reach so many of their goals.
The Mill on the Fleet provided some delicious food in the River Room, where a fun film 'Gala Week at the Wheels', made by Robin Alderslowe was shown. A special mention was made of the Gatehouse Development Initiative and the project's Steering Committee who have played a major role in supporting the project.
Outside the entrance to the project we were entertained with upbeat music by the Moot from Wigtown, regular customers of Wheels of Fleet, who were also presented with two of our t-shirts. Many of our 'Young Bikers' group received certificates for all their effort over the summer and also for attending the regular Friday morning Bike Bus to School. The project also thanked John Veitch and Graham and Margaret Wright for their invaluable help during the Raiders Gravel event when Wheels provided a bike wash and maintenance service for many of the competitors. Special mention is made of three young bikers, Hamish, Riley and Max, who many of the competing cyclists were especially impressed with.
The project looks forward to a busy winter with the Young Bikers group and running some more basic bike repair workshops - if you are interested please get in touch.
Look out for a new annual event in November, the Big Bicycle Light Festival, an evening of specially lit bikes going around the town. A big sincere thank you to so many of you out there, who have all played a part in Wheels of Fleet continuing to be the special space that it is.
