The World’s best cyclists return to Gatehouse for The Gralloch

Gatehouse of Fleet will once again host The Gralloch gravel cycling event this Spring. Held on Saturday 18th May, the event will be a qualifier for the gravel cycling World Championships, which will be held in Belgium later this year. As such it will attract some of the biggest names in the professional sport as well as amateur cyclists racing in their age groups, all competing on the trails of the Galloway Forest Park and the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.

Last year’s inaugural event put the town and Dumfries and Galloway area on the gravel cycling map and created a unique atmosphere around the town. As part of the 2024 race weekend there will be a programme of free to attend community events, and after the success of last year’s event the kids’ racing will also return.

Once again on race day the free to attend event village will occupy Ann Street and will include food and drink outlets as well as music and entertainment free to attend for all.

The Gralloch is due to attract up to 2000 riders and their supporters to Gatehouse and the wider region, all of whom will contribute to the local economy while participating in the event.

With such a large event visiting there is bound to be some disruption to the town’s normal routine. Race organisers hosted drop in sessions in December 2023 and are extremely grateful to all those who attended for their helpful and constructive suggestions which have helped them with their event planning.

Talking of plans, they and all the impacts on the town and the organisers’ mitigations will be published in April 2024 and be sent to all residents by Royal Mail letterdrop.
