A warm welcome awaits you in Gatehouse of Fleet in the middle of a National Scenic Area on the edge of the magnificent Galloway Forest Park in the rural heart of Dumfries and Galloway. This ‘pretty wee toon’ has much to offer - friendly people, lovely coastal and upland scenery, individual shops and a choice of excellent accommodation. Gatehouse caters for a wide range of interests the area is steeped in history and supports many interesting species of wildlife. There are opportunities for a variety of sporting activities including golf, sailing, mountain biking and more. Above all this is a peaceful and beautiful spot in which to relax and unwind.
If you have arrived, the best place to start is The Mill on the Fleet which is a restored 18th century cotton mill in Gatehouse. It is now a visitor centre telling the story of Gatehouse and the surrounding area within its exhibitions. It is also the town's Tourist Information Centre and you can pick up information on many local attractions and activities including local walks leaflets and regional handbooks of what to see and do.
Accommodation in and around Gatehouse
Gatehouse of Fleet can offer a wide selection of accommodation ranging from hotels such as the magnificent Cally Palace Hotel on the edge of the town, built in the 18th century by James Murray who built the town of Gatehouse itself, with its own sports club and 18 hole golf course, to the Murray Arms, Bank of Fleet and Ship Inn hotels in the town itself. The Woodlyn Guesthouse in the town provides B&B, and there are many holiday cottages in and around the town making the most of the beautiful landscape and coast. There are several caravan parks along the coast near the town, and one in the town. The hotels all provide meals and in addition, the Masonic Arms in Ann Street, the café at the Mill on the Fleet, Galloway Lodge, The Crafty Crow and the recently opened The Iron Brew provide meals and refreshments throughout the day. The town has a good selection of places to eat both for snacks and light lunches during the day or for evening meals. The two general stores in the town - the SPAR shop by the main car park and the Gatehouse Store (which also runs the Post Office) on the High Street provide a good selection of provisions. Read more

There is much to visit in and around Gatehouse. The Mill on the Fleet, a restored 18th century cotton mill by the river, is the place to start. It has exhibitions on the history and heritage of Gatehouse as well as containing the town’s Tourist Information Centre. Nearby there are fine gardens to visit, historic monuments and houses, and a varied landscape including fine beaches, beautiful woods, and wild uplands.
